A hurricane has a way of reminding us how quickly ordinary life can change. One day we are following familiar routines; the next we are watching forecasts, securing our homes, and wondering what the morning will bring. And even after the wind dies down, the storm may not feel finished. There is cleanup, uncertainty, exhaustion, and the task of returning to normal.

The Bible never promises that following Jesus will keep every storm away. Instead, Psalm 46:1 (ESV) reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Notice that God is not described as help only after trouble. He is present in it.

Sometimes we recognize His care through dramatic answers to prayer. Other times it comes through a neighbor checking in, a friend sharing supplies, or the strength to handle one more difficult task. These acts do not erase the damage, but they can remind us that we are not abandoned.

After a storm, it is tempting to measure God’s goodness by how much we lost or how quickly life returns to normal. Yet His faithfulness is deeper than our circumstances. He remains worthy of trust whether our prayers are answered exactly as we hoped or the recovery takes longer than expected.

The aftermath can also become an opportunity to love. We can help clear debris, bring a meal, listen to someone who is frightened, or offer practical assistance without waiting to be asked. God’s comfort is something we receive—and something we can share.

If you have just come through a storm, you do not need to pretend it was easy. Thank God for what was spared. Grieve what was lost. Accept help where you need it. And take the next step, knowing that the Lord who was with you during the wind is still with you in the quiet afterward.

A Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for being near and faithful. Teach us to trust Your Word, follow Jesus in ordinary moments, and show Your love to the people around us. Give us wisdom and strength for today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
