How To Hear God’s Voice
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27 (ESV)
Many believers wonder, “How do I know when God is speaking to me?” We may expect a dramatic voice or unmistakable sign, while overlooking the primary way God has already chosen to speak: His Word.
Start With Scripture
God will never guide us in a way that contradicts what He has revealed in the Bible. Scripture gives us truth by which every impression, desire, and decision can be tested.
Prayer matters too. Prayer is not only presenting requests; it is making room to listen, surrender, and let God’s truth reshape our thinking.
God can also use wise believers, circumstances, conviction, and the work of the Holy Spirit to guide us. But these should be measured against Scripture rather than replacing it.
Sometimes the problem is not that God is silent. It is that our lives are so noisy that we rarely become still enough to pay attention.
Listening to God is not about chasing secret messages. It is about becoming increasingly familiar with His character and His Word so that we recognize what is consistent with His voice.
Jesus said His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. The goal of hearing is not merely information. It is obedience.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, quiet the distractions around me and within me. Give me a hunger for Your Word and wisdom to recognize Your guidance. Help me not only hear what You say, but have the courage to follow You. Amen.
