Temptation is real - How does the believer overcome it?
“God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)
Temptation is part of the Christian life. Becoming a believer does not mean temptation disappears. It means we no longer face it alone or powerless.
Even Jesus was tempted, yet He never sinned. In the wilderness, He answered the enemy with Scripture and remained submitted to the Father.
Look for the Way of Escape
Paul reminds believers that temptation is common and that God is faithful. He provides a way to endure it.
Sometimes that escape is very practical: leave the situation, turn off the screen, call a trusted friend, change the conversation, or avoid the place where you know you are weak.
We also need God’s Word stored in our hearts. Temptation often begins with a lie: “This will satisfy you,” “No one will know,” or “God is withholding something good.” Scripture answers lies with truth.
And when we fail, shame tells us to hide from God. The Gospel tells us to run back to Him, confess, receive forgiveness, and continue walking.
Victory over temptation is often built through many small acts of obedience rather than one dramatic moment.
Do not merely ask God to make temptation disappear. Ask Him to make your love for Christ stronger than the thing tempting you.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, You know where I am weak. Help me recognize temptation early, remember Your truth, and take the way of escape You provide. Strengthen my desire for You and give me courage to choose obedience today. Amen.
