Serving Others Like Jesus
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45 (ESV)
The world often measures greatness by influence, recognition, authority, or success. Jesus turned that definition upside down.
He told His disciples that He came to serve.
Think about that. The Son of God washed feet. He noticed people others ignored. He touched the sick, welcomed children, fed the hungry, and ultimately gave His life for sinners.
Following Jesus means learning to notice opportunities to serve too.
Most acts of service will never receive applause. They may look ordinary: helping someone who is overwhelmed, listening when a friend needs to talk, preparing a meal, encouraging a coworker, caring for a family member, or giving time when it would be easier to stay comfortable.
Serving does not make us more valuable to God. We serve because Christ has already loved and served us.
It is also possible to serve with the wrong heart. We can help others while secretly hoping to be noticed. Jesus invites us to something better: service motivated by love rather than recognition.
Ask God to show you one person you can serve today. It does not have to be dramatic.
A small act done with genuine love can reflect the heart of Christ more clearly than we realize.
In God’s kingdom, greatness is not found in how many people serve us. It is found in becoming more like the Savior who willingly served others.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You for Your Word and for Your faithful presence in my life. Help me trust You, follow You, and reflect Jesus in the way I live today. Give me wisdom, courage, and a heart that stays close to You. Amen.
