Salvation - The Most Important Free Gift To Receive

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8 (ESV)

We are trained to be suspicious of anything called “free.” Somewhere there must be a catch, hidden fee, or obligation.

Then Scripture tells us salvation is a gift.

That can be difficult to accept because nearly everything else in life must be earned. But the Gospel tells us that what we could never earn, God offers through Jesus Christ.

Grace Cannot Be Earned

Sin created a debt we could not pay. No amount of good behavior can erase our guilt or make us righteous before a holy God.

So Jesus did for us what we could not do for ourselves. He lived without sin, died in our place, and rose again. Salvation is offered through faith because Christ has already paid the cost.

Free to us does not mean cheap. Our salvation cost Jesus His life.

Receiving that gift also changes us. We do not obey God to purchase His love. We begin obeying because we have received it.

Maybe that is why grace can feel so difficult: we would rather prove ourselves worthy than admit our need.

But salvation begins with open hands, not a résumé.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for offering salvation as a gift I could never earn. Help me stop trying to prove myself worthy of Your grace and instead trust completely in what Jesus has done. Let gratitude for Your gift shape the way I live today. Amen.
